Why do we need sleep?

Sleep is not a luxury, it is a necessity for good physical and mental health. It is as important as nutrition in terms of survival. Sleep serves many functions and our bodies all require long periods of sleep in order to restore, rejuvenate, grow muscle, repair tissue and synthesize hormones. Not only do you feel better when you've slept well, your overall health is improved too!

Poor sleep has actually been linked to the following health concerns:

  • Poor growth and slow weight gain in babies and children
  • Postpartum depression
  • Diabetes and Heart disease
  • Decreased immune function
  • Slow metabolism and weight gain in adults
  • Difficulty regulating emotions
  • Poor mental health
  • Deterioration in reaction time, memory and cognitive abilities & attention
  • Cancer

Some of these may not be apparent right away but can manifest as we age. Sleep deprivation can also be misdiagnosed as ADHD in children. Furthermore, Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is released into the bloodstream during sleep and therefore is vital to the growth and development of children and adolescents.

Everyone benefits from quality sleep! Don't put your family's health at risk unnecessarily. Let Over the Moon Sleep Solutions guide you and your loved ones to nights of peaceful rest.
